Default Air Intake and Manifold

for the 06 f150 5.4L V8
was wondering if anybody could tell me....
if i cut the front piece of the intake off (the part behind the driver side light) could i install a nice big K&N air cone on there, and then replace, or remove (whichever is better) the rectangular air filter located in the box? would this work and/or give me power...also by adding the Throttle Body Spacer and an upgraded throttle body, what would i gain??

thanks again....

if ur going through changing the TB ur just as well putting on an intake like an airaid or kn, whatever ur choice. the stock air tube is restrictive compared to the aftermarket ones.
