No one has mentioned a huge reason the Ecoboost engine will be 3.5 liters and not a large V8.
Weight.
Right now the 5.0 and 3.5tt are about the same weight with all accessories. Both lighter than the 6.2 by a fair margin.
Add turbos and plumbing to a 5.0 and your back up to 6.2 weight.
So aluminum body weight savings plus engine weight savings both increase economy and most importantly OFF ROAD PERFORMANCE. Suspension benefits are amplified. The most important factor in a Raptor bar none. Without off road suspension this truck doesn't exist. Looks, sound power are all meaningless without the suspension. Power, sound and looks can be found in numerous other vehicles.
No one puts all this together in an off road package like the Raptor.
3.5tt makes lots of sense.
10 speed tranny sounds a bit much with such a wide powerband in this motor. More like a diesel offering for low rpm range motors. 8 speeds would be fine.
I think this new Raptor will be beyond most peoples expectations. Big evolution from the first generation.

Pretty sure it will be the Raptor.
Right now the mod center in Michigan has only given it a code name like "PT437" as is any new model vehicle that Ford builds.

The prototype has already been named "Raptor" and it seems that the Atlas will be a next gen carry over.

This is what I was told just a few minutes ago from a friend that work at DTP (Dearborn Truck Plant).

He told me that they don't even have the dies struck for the body panels or even any of the interior parts. This is time consuming as well.
Everything made in the Mod center is a prototype and is made by hand for the most part. Then after everything is given the green, then the vendors get the specs and start mass producing seats, panels, dash pads, etc.

Like I said in the introduction thread I work in the repair shop at an actual assembly plant. I see what goes on every day not just here but service bulletins on all Ford vehicles. So it's safe to say I prefer a V8 whether EB or not in my truck. A V8 is my drink of choice. Of course the Raptor hasn't been named yet. It's a 2 letter three number sequence right now.
Come back in April of 2016 and tell us the name.
Book marked for April 2016.
Your attempts at sounding intelligent are failing miserably. Stop with the condescending undertones, it offers nothing. But since you so choose to keep coming back for more...I never said I wasn't with Ford. Think before you respond. As for the name of the truck TODAY, if you really knew what you were talking about, you would know that it is known by 2 names (Not just an alpha-numeric code)..neither has really stuck to this point. But this is also information that I am not going to disclose.

Also your comparison of the aluminum body risk to a 5.0L ecoboost is weak. Let's see, a risk that will bring Ford to the front of the pack in light weight material usage and potential fuel economy resulting in more potential truck buyers than ever before as they could possibly get car or suv fuel mileage in a full size truck...yeah that appeals to the masses.....or they could choose to develop an entirely new power train / drive train and chassis combination for a whopping 10-13K SVT trucks per year? Where is your logic?

I don't give a rats *** about a V6 in a pick up truck if you haven't noticed yet. I don't give a rats *** if a V6 has 1000 HP more than a V8 option, I want a v8 in my truck.
Now lets move onward. The spring of 2016 will prove you do not know what you are talking about and I will come back to this thread and call you out on it.
And the alpha numeric crap, if you think I'm going to actually post the actual unit product code, you are a fool! I'm not posting anything that will jeopardize my job! And it is not two dam names! WOW! Stop being a poser, please!
I have laid my cards on the table and you are just all talk.
I will have more info that I will be posting as I gather what I can but you are not contributing squat or you would of done so already.
We will see in a short time, who knows what they are talking about.
Rant off.

Again, you don't know what you are talking about...you laid your cards??? Guess it was a crap hand, huh? And yes two names....and they are not raptor. The first of which I will say was dumb...the second not so bad. I hope it sticks. The production truck however may keep the Raptor name. But again the current program alias is NOT RAPTOR! You are gather info...that's funny. I have it. In fact I already know what's happening for 2018
