actually, he's one of the reasons i considered my ford lol.

my mom, has a 2003 intrepid with a nice little 397 000 kms on it. she recently had the motor and trans rebuilt, but only because the car... is mint, other than the rims, it's all black. inside and out..... you'd think it's an unmarked cop car if you seen it.

and myself, i've got a 1967 impala, 752 000 kms all original. amsoil has truly been good to her.
Guess what vehicle was most turned in in the "cash for clunkers program" ?

You got it, the Explorer. But when you put that kind of miles on a car, it becomes like an old friend. Besides, you only have so many really good cars like that in your lifetime. Hold on to the bitter end and you won't regret it.

Had a pickup in the early 80's. Put about 235K miles on it. It was like two cars. It wasn't so common to have ultra high mileage cars in those days (Thank you, Mobil One). The money I saved I used to put a down payment on my first house. A guy at work when the car had well over 200K on it kidded me about it, but I told him when it was new I used to take beautiful women on dates in it. By the time I let it go, illegal aliens were knocking on my door trying to buy it to start a landscape business. They don't make Mobil One for dents or upholstery.

Good story. Those old 4.0 and 3.0 in the Rangers would just go forever. My bro had 370K miles on his 93' Exploder-original motor-never opened. Had a reubuilt tranny as those were known not to be so robust.

Keeping a car/truck at least 10 years makes the most financial sense. Even putting a used/rebuilt motor in most of the time works out money wise.

Decent oil and frequency of changes will stretch the life out as much as possible.

My 2005 f150 has 206,000 on the original motor and trans. Hell it has all of those miles on all of the original belts, hoses, cats, electronic sensors, and almost everything on the truck is what it rolled off of the dealership lot on it.

My dad has an early 90's ranger with 300k miles on it on all original drivetrain.

270,000 KM, needed a new tranny and engine at about 250 for engine and 230 for tranny. I did some nasty mudding with it tho.
