Default What should I do?

I have an 02 F150 Supercrew with a 5.4. With 203,000 miles. Still runs great, and haven't had any problems. I'm looking to do electric fans, and a custom tune from VMP. I have magnaflow exhaust and AEM intake. My question is with as many miles as I have I want to rebuild my transmission before tuning. Should I get a shift kit installed while its being rebuilt, or a higher stall torque convertor? He said he could do a performance rebuild and that is included, but If I get a custom tune with my shift points adjusted will the shift kit and stuff still be beneficial? Or should I just go with a regular rebuild?

Back in my Cadillac days these behemoths after 1964 had the Turbo Hydramatic TH400 installed. Any way the TH400 was also used in the Chevy and GMC trucks of the The mid 1960's well into the 1970's. When I had a Cadillac TH400 rebuilt at the Kimball, NE garage at the advice of their 30 year plus transmission mechanic I always had the Cadillac transmissions rebuilt to truck spec's. The shifts where much crisper, and faster, the TH400 with Cadillac shifting spec's shifted slower and smoother. You could hardly tell the difference but the faster and crisper meant the clutch pack would last much, much longer because there was less slippage during clutch engagement. A shift kit in any automatic that does the same is a very good idea. It costs a little more up front but you save money in the long run with a transmission that will go thousands of miles farther then it might have in stock form.

Definitely do the shift kit. I have one in my trans and full synthetic trans fluid. Get the trans tuned to.

Ok, is the trans tune something the transmission shop could do, or am I just going to have to buy the electronic tuner online.

I would suggest you go thru 5startuning. I bought my tuner from him and he can do tuning. I had his tunes till I started doing my own.

I was going to get an sct x3 from vmp tuning it 5 star with 3 custom tunes with shift points adjusted and things like that. So your talking about something specifically for the transmission, correct?

Yes since shift points and pressures can be changed.

Must be broke then. Changed the gear rati and had a shift kit installed. Tuned the trans to the new gear.
