Default What engine oil are you using

I just got my 2011 F150 Supercrew 4X4 with 5.0 and was wondering which oil type/brand should I use.

The consensus would be to use Motorcraft 5-20 semi-synthetic. It is a very well respected oil at a reasonable price. Most oil change places as well as ChinaMart carry it.

There are always those hyping the more expensive specialty oils. Those are an unnecessary waste of money. I have yet to find anyone that can document a recent engine failure related to running the wrong brand of oil.

Few of us keep a vehicle long enough for a brand to make any difference. Use the right weight quality oil and change it at reasonable intervals and you will be fine. And just get any good filter. Motorcraft again is fine; nothing exotic needed.

If your ride has the 5.0L with cam phasers you had better stick with the oil recommended for the engine by Ford; otherwise, a synthetic rated API N will serve. Oddly enough Wal-Mart's Supertech full synthetic has that rating.

Amsoil has no API certification so I wont touch the stuff even for my old 97 that I have. Does that mean its bad? probably not but I wont buy the hype. I agree with the above post stick with whatever Ford recommends.

for what its worth Wall Mart supertech is one of the higest rated oils you can buy I have used it for years in my diesel with no problems. Wall Marts service is also exelent. but with a new truck its hard to beat dealer service they check for TSBs and use motercraft oils and filters and with todays extended service intervels its not that expensive. I do recomend full synthetic oil after break in Bubbabud 2011 XLT SCAB Ecoboost

...use the oil recommended...in any case, the frequency of oil changes is the most important thing...whether it is synthetic or dino oil, it has to be changed on time...

I have a friend with an older F150 who ran dino oil since new and it has almost 300,000 miles on it with no problems and he uses it for almost everything-towing, working, etc...his advice was to get the oil changes on time and increase the frequency the harder you work the engine.

I was told that on a high mileage engine like mine (237k), I should use 10w30. Ill be changing to valvoline high mileage 10w30 next oil change. I do have a small oil leak, maybe this will help.
