Well I took off both tensioners when I did it this weekend. I was under the impression that you had to remove them to get the chains off?

When I fix this this weekend should I replace tensioners and guides since the high miles? If so what should I do, crank with plugs out?

All I did the second time was use vice grips on the cam shaft right behind the phaser to release the tension enough to slip the phaser off the cam shaft.

I know you're not supposed to reuse the phaser bolts, but I figured that I would likely replace the phasers in the near future anyway and after my chain slipped ~180 degrees on the passenger side I figured my valves were already screwed. I just wanted to see how bad it was. Luckily - no damage that I can tell so far. Compression tester adapter came today - I might get som time to actually test on Friday.

Well I decided to pick up new tensioners and guides, so I think I am going to tear into it tomorrow night after work.

I'll report back.
