Default mileage tips

I have an 82 shortbed that I put a 351w and c-6. Truck was originally 302 with an aod. After I put the 351 in with the aod, i got about 12-14 mpg. Now with the c6 I get about 10-11. I had to keep playing with the speedo gears and it now have it pretty close. The truck has a 9 inch with 3.50:1 gears and the 2 barrel carb that came stock in 82 (I wanted to rebuild it, but...no tag-no kit). It runs smooth when warm and runs out fairly smooth. Would I benefit at all with a four barrel set-up or would I just be throwing gas and money on the fire? The guy I bought the engine from said it was "built" up a little so I'm thinking that I may be starving it to the point of inefficiency. What do you guys think?

put the aod back in. you lost mileage because the c6 has no OD and is extremely heavy. if you took the aod out because it was tired, they are cheap to build up. my aod in my mustang holds 600rwhp no problem.

Good advice...also, get a Weiand 2P-180 manifold and a Holley 600cfm vacuum secondary 4BBL. That'll get you some power without sacrificing economy. But be very careful with the TV setup between the carb and tranny. Goof up the TV setting and you can kiss the OD band good b'ye.
