Default Howdy

I am new to this site I just got tasked with trying to fix my mothers 93 F-150 4X4 the truck is in mint condition and I don’t believe it has every been put in 4 wheel drive that I know of, she has taken it to several shops to fix a ruff idle and surging and it will shut off at a stop light but will start right back up, I am a novice mechanic and do not have any diagnostic tools, I have been told it could be a weak fuel pump or something in the distributor, I just replaced the dead battery and it started on the fist turn but was idling very ruff and sputtering when I gave it some gas, would like to know what you think before I start throwing parts at it.
thanks

This post would get more response in the Pre-97 section. There is a sticky at the top of that section that shows how to pull codes without a scanner. That's a good starting point.
