Run a couple cans of Gumout thru it and check dist cap/rotor/plug wires and plugs first especially if you haven't tuned it for some time. Pump may be old but they usually just quit on you. Old worn intake valves can cough/pop back into the intake under acceleration. Answer for low compression is pull heads and reman checking cyl wear befor fixing heads. If wear over .003" you need a crate engine replacement or an auto salvage swap.

I had a smiliar problem with my 89 EFI 5.0. I would buy/borrow a fuel pressure tester. Then you can check if you have a low pressure/ starving problem.
My problem was a tank mounted gas pump, found it after replacing quite a bit of the fuel system.
Good luck
