Engine clicking noise
I had what I thought was an engine clicking noise. Every time I shout off the blower control on the dashboard, the noise stopped. There also became an anoying squek frm inside the dash. It was the baffiling inside the dash making the engine like noise. Ford went in and replaced the parts so the noises stopped. It was under warrenty but I was told it was around $450.00 if I had to pay for it.
I have an 09 4.6 3v. I brought mine to the dealer and they told me that when I got my oil changed the guys used a napa filter which didn't have a check valve. The engine was starting "dry". They changed the oil, put a quart of "fords secret sauce" and it never knocked again. I was never told what he put in there though. Also, it sounded almost like a diesel sort of rattle.
Check your spark plugs!!!!
My 2006 F150 5.4 Lariat Super Crew 60100 miles, began showing of a tapping noise similar of that of a tapping the side of a tin can. Very prevalent when entering a garage or drive through after start up. Over thirty days it became louder. Took it to the Ford dealer and the service representative stated it was nothing to worry about.
That did not sit right so I made an appointment the next week after I changed the oil, filter and listened to the engine with a mechanics stethoscope. I found the tapping was prevalent from the left side rear engine above the manifold.
I returned to the dealership and spoke with another service writer who listened as well. After an hour or so he comes out and informed me that they found one spark plug had worked its way lose. The compression leak from the cylinder caused the plug to tap.
They said they have seen this on a few 5.4’s but was not common. The service was free since the plugs had been changed @ 54, 000 miles.
