Find out what year the block started using a roller cam from the factory. As far as I know that's the big difference.

all you have to do is drill and tap the block for roller cam if you want to use one. make sure that if you truck uses a knock sensor you drill and tap a hole for it. it goes behind the intake where the bellhousing bolts up. you can also screw it into the heads and it will work.

I had my knock sensor out out of my truck the entire time I owned and it ran fine but that was a 4.9l straight six. Dunno how it will affect your truck.

the fuel injected 302 or should i say 5.0 has a diffrent firing order than the caburated you will have to make shure you use your crank if your going to keep it fuel injected plus your cam on the 5.0 is a hydraulic roller cam and you will have to modify the older block to handle the roller lifters plus your heads will have to have bigger valve springs to handle the roller cam if not the valves will float with the roller cam also the 80 model block probably has a 2 peice rear main seal and the 5.0 has a 1 peice seal and another thing you have to look out for is the water pump they make 2 diffrent water pumps the 5.0 runs a diffrent direction than the 302. its alot easier to just rebuild the older motor slap a caburator on it with an one wire hei distributor on it if you want to use the old motor
