Yeah put em in and try it. If it knocks you know you need to do more work, but if it's quiet... slap a for sale sign on it and park it by the road

Hah It's just a joke. Just replacing the bad bearings is sort of a gamble, it can last a few months or a few years. Worst case you're back where you started though, no big loss. I've done it a couple times.

I mean like I said it's possible that it'll be temporary but when I rebuilt mine 7 and 8 were spun and the rest were perfect. As long as you plastigaged them so you know they torqued down right and made sure you didn't put the caps on backwards I'm sure it'll be fine for a long time.

i was sure to mark the caps with a punch for numbers and direction... if it starts to knock again i will pull the engine and do it right...

I mean yeah it's not the "right" way to do it but if you get even a year out of it it's worth it to me to put off the cost. At least this way you can plan for it instead of all of a sudden needing a rebuild.

Had a bearing go back in 2011, with some oversized bearings and machining of the cam and what not from a shop local paid $1400 for the rebuild and for them to install and warranty the engine after I pulled it apart.

Dropped the truck off with the engine in the bed... Got it back bout week and half later purring like a kitten!
