My project list
Ok, I wanted to post this up on Fordsix.com but still haven't gotten approved so I'll post up here and when I get approved over there then I'll post up there. I have a 88' RCLB 300I6/M5OD/8.8 w/3.08open for a drivetrain. Here's my plan for the drivetrain. I've been doing a tremendous amount of research on several different forms into what roue I would like to go. I'm thinking i'll just stick with an NA 300. I looked into a turbine but it doesn't off the reliability I want right now (maybe down the road when I can afford another dedicated daily) I also looked in a 4bt swap and it didn't appear to suite me well either. Mainly I'm just curious if there's anything that I'm thinking of here that wont work or wont be worth even doing.
Engine
Head
351W TB with home built CAI (only seen the 351W TB mod mentioned once and honestly dont know if it even works or bolts up, all though they do look very similar)
Port and polish with a 3angle valve job (possibly larger valves not sure if I will or not yet)
Comp 260H cam and associated parts with the included "cam kit"
Possibly stiffer valve springs just to be on the safe side (all though not required with this cam)
Looking at Harland sharp 1.6 full roller rockers, all though after some research over on fordsix.com it appears a more aggressive rock and a higher lift cam tend not to mix on these motors. All though that situation was applied to the 1.7 ratio chevy rocker arm mod and not 1.6 full rollers so i'm not sure if it will work or not.
MAYBE and a big MAYBE as I may want to go to a turbine later on. Mill the head to bump the compression a little.....maybe to about 9-9.5:1. Enough to get a bit more power but not so much that it wouldn't run on mid grade or even regular if it had to (for some reason, just thinking of all possibilities).
Bottom End
At this point leave it stock unless I went with a turbine then I would build the bottom end as well
Exhaust
Currently looking into doing a single 3" with a super 44 from he cat back (all though I would like to get rid of the cat as well and replace it with a dynomax bullet but thats something to tackle at a friends shop)
Been looking at headers but he jury is still out as to if they will be worth the money for the amount of power achieved. If I were to go with one it would most likely be hedman and take it down to a local shop to have ceramic coated.
Transmission
Already have a new clutch master/slave as well as upgraded to the larger 11" HD clutch disk as well as the larger HD High pressure, pressure plate a while back when I needed a clutch.
Rear end
Goal is to down the road rebuild the whole thing with new seals and insides with a factory limited slip and 3.55 gears
Based on a tire size calculator a 3.55 gear set combined with the tires I have (275/65/18) it should only be about 0.09 more aggressive than factory gears/tires. I need the more aggressive gears due to having a 3.08 open and having a wheel tire setup off a 06 fx4 which I put on after a 2" front lift and 6lug conversion.
Thanks,
Tom
