Default Club 4.9: The Straight-6 Enthusiast Discussion Thread

Well guys, I thought this would be a cool idea for a thread. As many of you know, I drive a 1989 F-150 4x4 with a 300. Im sure more people on this site are fans of this epic motor.

Low end torque ftw.

I admit, I wasn't a big fan of the 4.9 after I bought my truck but once I've had it a while and wrenched on it a few times, it's quickly growing on me.

Not to mention how long they supposedly last which is great cause I plan on having my truck a looooonnnngggg time. :-)

Yup. Most people dont even find out what the 300 can do. Put it in fourth and rev it up to 3000 RPMs, you havent experienced torque until you have done that. Not to mension topping it out, mine goes up to around 105MPH and it runs out of air...

well my 4.9 only has 125,000 miles and i have replace plugs,wires,coil,fuel pump,fuel filter,air filter,pvc valve,brand new egr valve,ignition switch,had timing set,catalytic
converter was checked as was the o2 sensor, throttle body was taken off, cleaned and
new gasket put back on,it still has a weird shaking at a certain spot on the gas petal
so I replaced the idle positioniing sensor as well.It seems to run a little better when cold
but as soon as it gets a little warm, the shacking comes back.I can describe it more like a sputter while driving,I ran several cans of sea foam through it,tried octane booster
and a can of heet to make sure theres no water in the gas.I recently tried putting it in
nuetral and while slowly increasing the rpm's,the sputter seems to occur at a distinct
point. What else can be wrong with this hunk of junk???I even too it to a tune up place and they put it on a machine and could not get a code.HELP!!!!
PS I have never gotten more than 12 miles per gallon and the auto trans was serviced and works fine, shifts good.

I was wondering where I noticed your name so I clicked on the button that said "See More Posts By This User" and I remembered that you were that fat troll.

The 300 will outlast any of your Toyotas or Hondas. Toyota would be lucky if you can even stop it in the first place.

On a positive note, I love my 300. I won't say much more about it. Simples as that, reliable as can be.
