Default Rear leaf spring bracket flip?

I don't know why Ford hangs the rear of the leaf spring basically upside down...with this bracket...

It would be so much easier to raise/lower the rear if they were hung "normal". I came across these for the older Super Duty trucks...

I wouldn't try to use these, but I would have a friend help me fab a couple F150 specific ones.

The thing that concerns me is some of the comments on the Sky's website where some of the guys are not happy because this bracket moves the axle forward, that would definitely not fly. As long we put the bolt hole where the factory one is, I don't see why or how the axle would move.

I want my truck to sit with a certain stance without having to use the air bags. I only want to use the bags for when I load it up. I have a set of MaxTrac 1" lift shackles I bought from jbone that i'm going to try first, if those don't put the rear where I want it, then I will see about fabbing the rear brackets.

I've only seen shackles that hang like that used in 4wd offroad applications. Not sure why the shackle orientation would affect axle position since the front leaf mounting point and the center pin set the wheel base and axle position.

Exactly...I guess I just needed to hear someone else say (type) it. I would only get into this if the shackles I have don't put the truck where I want it. I just looked again on the Sky's site, it was just one guy that had an issue with his axle. The other dudes loved them.

I think the better option would be for a company to make a recurve spring pak that can give us 3-4" without the axle flip.

That would be ideal. I might look into that, I have a spring company not that far from me.

I crawled under my truck after work today (gotta love daylight saving time) with the 1" MaxTrac shackle to compare it to the IHC one that came with my kit...yea, they're pretty much the same size. Sooo swapping that probably won't make any noticeable difference. Looks like I will be calling Palmer Spring tomorrow.

I stopped up at Palmer Spring on Friday to have Ed check out my truck and get his take on what I should do to get the static height where I want it without having to use the bags. Super nice guys there and serious old school. No computers, all books.
Anyway, Ed suggested that I either have an extra leaf put in or just get a different set with 4 leaves to replace the factory 3 leaf set I have now. They are definitely cheap enough so we'll see.
