Hi All, This is my first post as I am a new member. I have a 2017 Ford F150 and just had a shop lower it using a BellTech 3/5.5 lowering kit 1000SP. There are a couple issues. Issue one is that the rear sits about a 1 inch lower than the front. This is not the look I am going for. Measured from center wheel to bottom fender lip, the front is at 19” and the rear is at 18”. I called the shop and explained this. They told me they can’t go any lower in the front as they are already as low as it can go, they said they used no spacers in front. They sounded like they didn’t know what was causing the issue but will take a look at later this week. If anyone knows what is going on please let me know. Issue two is I am getting a small vibration when accelerating between 20-30 MPH. I think I know what the issue is. It may need a pinion shim. My local Ford dealer recommended the shop as they said they do all their custom work so I believed they knew what they were doing. Any info on these issue would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.
Might have to add a lifting shackle to the back. Until you get the ride height you want, don't worry about the shim. If you install a shim in the back and then change something in the back to raise it up the shim might have to be removed or need a bigger one.
I think many people are either adding a leaf to the rear or getting a different shackle. The good news about the former is that your carrying capacity will be higher!
I did the add a leaf and it raised the back a lot (maybe 3"? I can't remember) and it made the ride rough with one person in the truck. Fine with 4 people or pulling the boat but with just me in the truck, it is quite stiff. If you are going to do an add a leaf I would not do the tuff country ones i did, look for a longer leaf
I recently dropped my 2013 F150 CC w/a Belltech 3/5 Kit also & had the exact shimmy.
The problem is the Pinion Angle.... Have the shop measure with a gauge or buy one yourself, they're very cheap & easy to use.
The Belltech shims will not work or at least they didn't on mine. I am sure your truck also has 2 large locating pins on the blocks/perch & if so, their shims are backwards, causing the shim to stick out the front of the block (because the Axle is flipped). Which also leaves a large gap in the back half of the block, where it is not even touching the perch. Sorry for the bad news, but at least you won't have your axle in/out of your truck like 4 times afterwards, as I did.... See attached Pic's
I ended up removing their Shim's (because the GAP seems very unsafe) & rotating my Axle where it needed to go.
Then welded Belltechs axle perch/block (# 6442-025) to my axle-tube. Appx 1" weld on each side of their perch/block (not pictured).
