Is it worth it.
Just got ahold a 01 f150 lariat wit 220k miles. Getting another truck in a few months but with all the miles on this Ford and from wat I here all the usual problems of a Triton engine would it b worth my time too lift it 3 inches n get bigga tires or is the engine gonna crap out on me soon so far I've driven it from My to Cali seems fine, just don't wanna wast my time on a toy that won't make it. Wat do u guys think it's too small for work not enough room in the bed for plywood.
My opinion is you will only get a portion of your expenditures back as people will have that 200,000 miles staring at them no matter how much eye candy you throw at it. Only way to come would be to find someone that wants a weekend off road plaything which cuts down on possible number of buyers. I'd list it like it is. Somebody might be looking for a weekend work vehicle, farm vehicle, or a high school kid with big dreams.
Triton 2V engine is great. Generally at least a 200+k engine with no maintenance but oil changes.
has a few issues, we know what they are
buying a wore out one.....expecting to not spend $ would be foolish...
Most engines are approaching major $ past 200k....unless own Honda . And you cant discount the thousands spent
on timing belt changes along the way on jap engines either, then criticize triton timing chain guides and intake manifold.
Only way engine would "crap out" is if oil wasnt changed or hg leaks.Aside from a head gasket leak, the engines if maintained just keep going. Not knowing past history of a high mikeage truck, particularly if it had several owners, makes it a crapshoot. head gaskets can fail from corrosion due to lack of cooling system maintenance or overheating long ago compressing the gasket, or bad head gaskets or a burr from the factory on the block. Most actually probably fail due to corrosion from lack of cooling system maintenance
