wont start with key switch

my 2000 f150 xlt wont start. i can turn switch on and use a jumper on starter relay and it will start. whats the most likely problem?

i found the problem.apparently the previous owner had an alarm system and there was a faulty butt splice that came apart.i installed a new butt splice and all is good now. thanx for replying.
