Where does this vacuum line go?

I'm a bit confused on which vac line is in question.
Is it the one that your holding in the first picture? That line should be breather. Why is there a cap on the other vac line? That doesn't look right. The vac box looks fine. Have you tested the check valves?

I still say its a vent for the 4x4 but what do I know i only owned 2 of them.
Notice it's only a straight line, if it used to be connected to something it would have a flared end so it doesn't slide off easily.

I just looked at mine and I don't have that line at all. I had it confused with the black one that runs through the firewall. The only 2 lines coming from my diff are the red and blue. I have a fatter black rubber like hose coming off my diff also but it looks nothing like that.
I guess it's possible that it's a breather, being I can't see the entire set up the OP has BUT, it would be the first hose breather I've seen up that high in the engine compartment. So you guys have seen them up that high ehh..Being who that info is coming from, - have to take their word for it. Personally, never seen them up that high.
To be totally sure, all the OP has to do is locate the breather.

That's right though, had one on the old truck but , -it ended at the inside wheel liner just above the frame rail. I was missing the piece that went to the top for some reason... I assume the truck never had that piece from the get go.. Someone probably lost their slurpy straw at the factory...it made for a quick replacement.. I expect.

Does that loose black line have vacuum on it when the engine is running? If not, it's not being used as a vacuum line, it's a vent for either the front differential or the transmission.
There should be a black line that goes through the firewall (to the HVAC control head) that is supposed to be connected to manifold vacuum. It sounds like yours in so longer intact and the HVAC system has defaulted to defrost due to no vacuum supply. Common failure point is in the vicinity of the area between the battery and the firewall.

Same issue
So I developed a problem when I replaced my heater blend door. After I was done, I developed a whistle at 2400-2500 RPM. The whistle sounds like it's in the dash, in the area behind the passenger side air bag. All the vents in the dash work fine, and do what they're supposed to do. Changing the EATC control to run it through the different modes doesn't have any impact on the whistle, and all the functions work correctly. The whistle 'seems' to be louder inside the cab than under the hood.
Then, last weekend, I got real stuck in the mud. When we were pulling me out, we noticed that the front wheels weren't engaged. I removed the battery tray to see if maybe we had accidentally disconnected the vacuum canister behind the battery. Everything looks fine, but then we found this one black vacuum line that runs down to the front differential with the blue and pink vacuum hoses. (see picture) We can't find anything that looks like it is missing a vacuum line, and have no idea where it goes.
There is another black vacuum line that runs through the firewall, and that is hooked up. Where the black vacuum line goes through the firewall, the hole seems way to big for just one little vacuum tube and is oval, as if there is room for another tube next to the one that's there. Is there supposed to be another tube coming out of the firewall that hooks to this black tube?
