Default wheel/tire question

wanting to do something different with my wheel tire combo, currently i am running stock chrome 17 inch 5 star wheels on my 99 with BFG Mud Terrains 255 75 17. I like the tires, but would like to have something a little bigger, 285 or better...the wheels im not crazy about, although i have seen some people paint them and make them look ok. I plan on cranking my torsion bars and leveling it out too. as i look at tires, i can actually buy after market wheels cheaper...if i buy a 17x8.5 or 17x9, will my 255's looke too stretched?
Thanks in advance
Ryan

Another question... I am wanting some offset too... Don't want them out real far, but definitely more than stock.... I found a few wheels in like... 17x8.5 inch. MB Motoring I found on eBay, they have - 6mm offset. Also some vtec warlords 17x9 with -12mm offset... Would -12mm be out very far from the stock?

I have 265s on 17x9 with -12 offset and they arent stretched and don't stick out past the fender. This is the best pic I have that shows the offset. Get the -12s

I have the same wheels as rhino with 285's and cranked t-bars. No side view though to show how far they stick out, it isn't much.

Before I lifted my truck this is how it looked: leveled out, stock wheels, 285/75 bfg km2 m/t's. Sat pretty high for a stock truck.
