Question Whats up with this??

Ok I put the flowmaster 40 series on yesterday, just on the pipe no tailpipe coming out past the back or fender and it sounded sooo good! Today I put like a 20" long pipe dumping infront of the rear tire and not it sounds like shi*, there is no manliness left like yesterday. Why does it do this? its the 2.5 inlet/2.5 outlet single centered. If I was to go to a 2" or smaller outlet would it be louder or just restrict the flow even more?

And I know someone out there is going to say "its because its a flowmaster" and if you do then go yourself.
Thanks

it's because it's a flowmaster.

Mine was the exact same. I have flowmaster super 44, and loud as can be w/ no pipe. Then i put duals on and it sounds insanely quiet. Something with piping. Idk why dodges and other fords sound so loud with thesame muffler. But they do. I wish i could help, give it some time to break in and see what happens.

Put a tip on it that is about 24" long and 4" wide. You will get the sound you are looking for. Tips echo sound waves due to the pressure difference, allows them to move more slowly giving a much deeper and louder tone. If you've ever removed the muffler and cat from a diesel, you would discover it isn't really much louder straight piped. Now put something like a 8" stack or 6"-12" tip and they get much louder due to the pressure difference.

Alot of it has to do with where the end of the pipe is. I had straight pipes that dumped right before the rear axle and it wasnt loud at all. Then I dumped straights just in front of transmission cross member and it is so freaking loud I dont even lidten to my stereo anymore. Also go to a 3" pipe for the last 24" Will lower the tone a bit and kill any rasp
