I owe a huge thank you to me1234 You literally saved my read end!

After you mentioned the possibility of low fluid, I looked under my truck for the tag on the rear to get the info off it, I discovered the seal where the drive shaft goes into the rear end has been leaking. It apparently was not enough to drip on my driveway because I always look for any spots on my drive, but the spinning of the shaft threw fluid all over the undercarriage of my truck.

I immediately bought fluid and the auto parts store version of additive for crisis mode.(Is that additive any good) It took 1 and 3 quarter qts of fluid. That's over 50% low. I will make official fluid change with friction modifier this weekend. Hopefully it'll be ok and stop the vibration.

Still have the breaking issue though...thats very strange.

Thanks again me1234...you nailed the rear end vibration I believe. I don't hear any chirping of noises. I wonder if I did any damage and what it could be if so....

wow

Steve

No problem. Im glad I could help you . As of the fluid for crisis mode Im not sure if they are good or not. As to the amount of damage, from what you listed so far I don't believe any damage has occured yet. However, you can tell when you change the fluid if any small metal shavings are in the fluid, then some damage was done. From what I know, a sure sign of damage is when chirping occurs, this is when metal is rubbing against metal. The rearend on my 2000 would vibrate at 58-65ish and when my fluid was changed there was no damage done to it. Hopefully you have no issues and good luck on the fluid change

Default update

Just wanted to give you an update in case there is someone else you can help.

The hopping and shaking when I hit the brakes which I mentioned in my original post which seemed strange since I had new brakes and rotors, well I accidentally just found out what it is.

I noticed my end bushings on my front anti sway bar were shot so I ordered new ones. Even though the hopping was coming from the rear of my truck when I hit the brakes, after I changed the bushings, I no longer get the shaking and hoping...go figure.

I may need to do that to mine... I just recently changed the fluid out of mine when it had about 156-157k miles. One more thing i might add is that when i changed the fluid, I can almost guarantee that it was the first time it had ever been serviced. It was nasty fluid, plus I could see a lot of bubbles in it. Very thin too. Good news is, no more grinding noise PLUS the best part was that there were no metal flakes... I consider myself lucky...
