this is a post from someone who doesn't care about or expect their truck to run much longer - make a lot of noise for a few months - maybe have a few brewskis and smoke the tires off - then off to the junk yard - have fun

From what i know about it the only headers that will give you any power are the long tube headers where the 4 pipes all collected and become one at the bottom nearly under the truck. I never have done it myself but loads have ppl tried those short tube headers on summit and have not noticed a power gain. And if you put the mustang or PI intake on. It’s supposed to give you 30 HP on the high end.

thanks for the input. that was my plan to go with long tube and run some cut offs under it just for fun but i wasn't sure what everyone else had tried / thought of. truck has sentimental value from a lost family member and have plans on doing it as he wanted it done.

No actual experience with modulars but, after having read many posts by knowledgeable folks, unless you are constantly running your truck at high rpms (i.e. motorsports) then the hp gain is dubious-
if you are having exhaust manifold problems, then there would be no problem with changing them out.
( cheaper, easier to find (?) But...

what if he wrapped the exhaust manifold with that insulation tape. I seen a tv show where they saw a pretty descent HP increase on a 60’s modular Ford by doing that. It was 10 or 12 HP I believe and it only cost 12 bucks on amazon.

So since my engine is out I can reach the entire exhaust manifold. So I decided to try out the teflon wrap to see if it helps anything. I seen the episode of wheeler dealers where they wrap a 60’s 4.6L exhaust manifold and they got a 8 HP gain.

Cheapest HP i ever bought!! 12bucks!

Came with stainless steel zip ties. I wonder how much different it’s gonna be. Im very aware of the temperature of my truck because of my electric fans. I can hear when the come on low and when the turn on full blast. I reckon i will notice a big difference.

So I wrapped up the manifolds, both sides 2 layers. Lets see if it gives it a power boost.

I installed a straight pipe PowerStick on my 2001.

And my 2013 now has a badlandz electric exhaust cutout.
