Default What do the CV's bolt onto?

I replaced the CV's a little while ago and I decided to go down there and tighten them up again as I have put roughly 500 miles on them and noticed that what ever they bolt onto moves. Not a whole lot, just enough to **** you off when tightening bolts and to ask the forum about haha. I don't think it was like this when I put the CV's in because I am sure I would have noticed it, but who knows. I have the 6 12mm bolts tightened to 75 ft lbs, and the axle nut to 100 (with lock tight) and it is still moving.

Is what ever the CV bolts onto supposed to move (when the truck is in park)?

I'm not sure what you mean ? Doesn't make sense. But yea, I do the same...Blue loctite (for coarse threads) I don't use an impact on those, torque in sequence until spec is achieved. No settling, so there's no re-tightening when done correctly.

I only use my 3/8" impact. Only good for 115ft/lb in forward. I use the correct tightening sequence tho.

That would work with a trusty impact and experience. I acquired a nice set of trusty SK torque wrenches years ago. Haven't used them much, so , every chance I get.....

Well when you have 45k in tool at your fingers, I tend to grab what is the quickest.

The CV butts up against some plate where it is bolted on by 6 12 point 12mm bolts.

The left side of this picture where the CV bolts into, what is that called, and is it supposed to move when the truck is in park?

*Not my truck*
