What a difference!!!
I have an 03 FX4 Supercrew with the 4.6, it has 112,000 miles on it. I have only had it for a few months now. I have been a jeep guy for a long time, and this is my first V8 and truck. I have felt the truck was lacking down low, so I started looking in to ways to fix this, I have replaced the plugs, and it already had an Airaid intake. Tonight I cleaned the TB and MAF. WOW! What a difference that made. It drives like a completly different truck now. Starts faster, idles smoother, gas pedal is smoother, faster response.
But........ it is still unable to break the tires loose, at all. I think my next step will be new. COPs, and then a SIDO muffler, electric fan, and tuner.
I'm not looking to race my truck, but I kinda use a good burnout as a gauge of power, and it sucks that this truck just won't do it. My real world use of this truck is a daily driver, and I build decks fences, and hardwood flors on the side. It really screams when pulling a couple thousand pounds up hill on the highway, and it HATES pulling my 20ft pontoon.
So what should my next step in trying to gain some real world, useable power for this truck.
Thanks!!!

Go lower gears youll get alot more pull and low end power, stock on our trucks are 3.55(some 4wd have 3.73) if you have stock or close to same wheel size go 4.10 if you have 35" or larger tires go 4.56. Also if you havent already put on some headers and a single 3" exhaust system or 2.50" true dual exhaust(preferrably with x pipe not h pipe, youll get more torque), do all that and youll be burnin thru your tires super fast....i do lol
I just got a set of 285 Terra Grapplers, but I don't think I'm going to do gears. Kinda looking for some easier, cheaper ways to get a little more pulling power. I am for sure doing the exhaust and tuner though.
I don't want to sink a ton of money into this truck because I see a new F150 in my future, and that truck will have some form of forced induction. I love the sound of a blower!!!

Horse power ain't cheep as for gears tonelocs47 is rite you will see a big improvement in a gear swap but open up the air it receives throttle body and a aftermarket mas air flow sensor and if you want pull off the intake plenum and get the dremel out lol or juQst get a super charger for it there's lots of ways to building horsepower just be creative And build it how you want it and don't forget to post what you do good luck and have fun
