What year and model truck do you have? Look for air bags on the rear end.

My truck is a 2001 F-150. I haven’t removed panels and chased wiring yet. The suggestion to connect 110 VAC to the wires on the switch to see what smokes had me cracking up!! That was hilarious right there!
I am thinking that it just might be something aftermarket.
