Default Weird Overheating Problem

So for the past 2-3 weeks, every morning without fail, my truck overheats - or so it appears.

I drive my kids to school every morning. It is no more than a 3 mile drive. Just as I am approaching my son's school, my engine temp guage goes hot, accompanied by a whinning/spqueeling noise (think of a tea pot boiling). Then, it goes back down to normal temp (slightly under the halfway mark on the guage) and it doesn't do it again.

This includes the next 3 miles to my daughter's school plug a 10 mile ride to work and 10 miles back home.

Any ideas? Recently had the oil and fuel filter changed. The coolant does not appear to be low (maybe slightly under the "cold full" line on the overflow tank).

Maybe time to replace the head gaskets?

1998 F150, 157K miles, 4.6 V8.

You may have a sticky thermostat. Next time it happens try to pull over and feel the upper readiator hose. Is your coolant level staying the same or are you losing it through the overflow tank. If the upper hose is cool or just warm, the thermostat may be the issue.
