Question Weird noise!

Hello Everyone:

Just bought a 2000 SCrew, 4.2 V6, 2 wheel drive and it's my first truck! It has a weird noise emanating from the rear engine/transmission area. I can only describe this noise to that similar to the noise made when you put a playing card on your bicycle spokes! I sure you all did that at some time or another. Ha Ha! This noise only happens as the truck is warming up and during light acceleration. Once it reaches operating temp., the noise quits. It does not do it in park or neutral however. The frequency of the noise does not change while accelerating either. Any help with this is appreciated.

I think you referring to a ticking noise, which is quite normal on our trucks. Mine does the same thing.

Sounds like a leaking exhaust manifold. Mine does the same thing, I have a broken stud on mine. I will be installing headers. Hopefully this weekend. All of the nuts are rounded off so it will be a PIA.

It.s not a ticking noise. It's more like a rattle or a knocking sound. It doesn't do it when it's in park or neutral. Could it be associated with the transmission or torque converter? As I ststed earlier, it quits after it's warmed up.
