Default Weird Horn!!

Hey Guys and Gals,

I just purchased a 2000 F150 XL reg cab/short box 4.2L 5-spd w/112k and am extremely satisfied with my purchase so far.

I have noticed one interesting thing about this truck - the other day I went to sound the horn at someone who was attempting to back out of their driveway into me! All of a sudden I heard what could only be described as the type of sound you would hear from the horn of a children's playtoy come out of my truck!!!

Somebody - anybody - please tell me whoever had this before me replaced the stock horn! I just want to make sure before I go to the wreckers and grab another that it will sound like an AMERICAN TRUCK HORN!!!

LOL! That is one of the best things I have read all week. Thanks for the laugh.

You might want to check if a wire came loose on one of the horns too. I had this happen to me in my Mustang and it turned out to be a bare wire that I had to repair. Just a thought!

He's right if I'm not mistaken one is kinda high pitch and one is low.

Yeah, happened to me once too. Sometimes it's a wire loose and sometimes one goes bad. Usually an easy fix.

Thanks all for all the replies. I just figured someone had replaced the horn with a joke horn or something but it sounds like I may have the same problem as a few of you guys. I'll take a look this weekend (it's supposed to go up above freezing on Saturday!)

I ran into the same dam* problem today! I think I shorted it out and blew a fuse when I went to change it out, now my horn won't work! Does anyone know if it is a fuse or a relay?

Fuse.

I had a buddy who put a duck call in the blow off valve of his Talon. There is a youtube video of it. Funny as hell. Everytime he built up boost and let off the gas, squeeqwaaaaak. Good times.

I didnt want to say anything about my horn, cuz I thought I would get laughed at. About a year ago, the only time I ever really took her out in the mud, the truck went haywire. That night I was at a buddys house, and was gettin ready to leave. Well I forgot my keys in his house, so I laid on the horn.....It went from a normal sounding strong deep sound, to I high tight pitched sound.Yet there was still a slight deep tone to it. Its like one horn went retarded, or got its nuts chopped off. So i quit using my horn. If I need someone to move, thats what the exhaust is for.
