Default Water&coolant

Flushed the radiator in my 1998 Ford F150 Triton V8. Would like to know how much distilled water and coolant I need to put back in?

5.4 holds a total of about 6 gallons. But when flushing you only get about 3 gallons out unless you drain the block, which no one ever does.

So a safe bet is about 3 gallons will need to be added give or take a little., just use 50/50 and refill. Mix your own is cheaper.

That's a good question

I'd say flush 3 or 4 more times, only use distilled water. After that the majority of the tap water will be gone.

That's the only way unless those engine plugs come out. Right?

if you add 3 gallons of 50/50 to a flushed but not drained 5.4 - you will end up with 25% coolant / 75% water - use full strength 3 gallons to get 50/50

no worries - up here that would be a fatal mistake - down where you are it would probably be ok

JMO but it's well worth it to take your truck to a shop with a coolant exchange machine. They replace all the fluid and flush everything under pressure which cleans out more crap than you can probably imagine. Using the machine has a drastic effect on the cooling system efficiency.

Just so yuhs know, -

Capacity is about 4.7 gallons...not 6.

3 gallons of that will drain easily from the radiator...exactly 3.
