V900A axle (code 26) interchange
I have a customer's truck here for an axle problem. Given the damage in there, its cheaper to replace than rebuild, but I have a question.
His truck is an 03 F150 4x4, axle code 26, which should be non-LSD, 3.73, 9.75", disc. According to the dealer, the VIN says its a V900A tag which I confirmed with the actual tag.
For some stupid reason, the V900 axle is ridiculously expensive in the salvage yards... like $1300 expensive, while most of the others are $450-600. Why couldn't I use any of the other axles? S923F and V923A are both the same specs. For that matter, I can get a Lightning axle for less than this open 3.73 V900A. What gives? Can I use one of the others?
