Used coils
After spending our Christmas money on replacing a temp sensor (and a rental car), I now learn that one and possibly two coils are going bad. The truck has 183k miles on it, and the plugs and plug boots were replaced 43k miles ago. With this many miles on it, I'm wondering if buying used/low mileage coils from a junkyard is an option.
x2 Look at global automotive or uneek on ebay and get a set of ten. Many have had good success with these and they're cheap enough compared to OEM that if one is bad out of the box (which does happen) you'll have a backup.
Thanks guys. Global Automotive on eBay has one coil @ 14.95 (http://tinyurl.com/3x4fbvj) or eight coils @ 84.95 (http://tinyurl.com/3xw4z2o). They don't say who the manufacturer is but they say, "These coils are of superior quality & are ISO9001 certified for quality assurance. We are the only company offering an iron-clad lifetime warranty..." Of course, that's what THEY say, but I want to know what OTHERS say. Does anyone have any good words for, or experience with, Global Automotive?
Here's a few threads from another forum with people who've had good luck with them:
