Default Turn signal problems

I just inherited a 2001 Ford F150 Lariat from my Father. The left turn signal indicator is not working (most of the time) and they both go out when it rains. When I was driving it home and put on a turn signal I heard a noise similar to an electrical short. As soon as the weather is dry the turn signals work fine. we just had a short down pour and they are not working again. Any help would be fantastic.

I would start by checking the pigtail connected to the multi function switch, those wires have a tendency of coming loose, also if im not mistaken on these the gem module gets when because of a leak in your windshield, check that out too. a quick search should turn up more results. also im sure one of the more knowledgeable guys will show up and guide you in the right direction
