Default Tuning and octane level?

Well I finally bought an sct programmer for my truck, a 2003 ford f150 5.4, and I currently have 89 in the tank. The programmer only has 87,91,93 canned tunes on it right now. I was wondering if I can retard or advance the timing, by the programmer, so I can run 89 this tank with one of the tunes? Thanks, nick

Just run it on the 87 or 91 whichever it runs better on till your out. I believe you can't mess with the timing with those kind of tuners. Not a 100% though.

It does have an option for adjusting timing

Oooh. Idk man does it say how much to advance it for a certain level of octane? I wouldn't touch it. That's just me though hate to screw something up.

Don't play with the timing unless you know what you are doing and datalogging.

I could be wrong but I'm thinking that I read somewhere that you don't want to run a tune for a higher octane than what's in your tank.

You are correct.... If you have 89 in your tank... Run the 87 tune...

Never run a higher octane tune than the fuel you have

You can always run a higher octane gas in the truck then tune, but not vice versa.

So if you have the 87 tune loaded, be fine to run 87 to 93 gas in the truck, but not the opposite. So if you have the 91 tune loaded, can run 91 or 93 gas, but not 87.

Trust that clarifies.
