Okay im looking at getting a programmer for my 01 4.6 this summer. I honestly can say this is one area i am not well informed in. What's the best way to go if i want a performance tune. and a gas mileage tune. And do mods done to the truck get taken into consideration when buying one?

A gas mpg tune is really just going to be an 87 Octane tune and you will see gains of maybe 1-3 mpg at BEST. If buying a tuner specifically for Gas mpg savings, be better off saving your money as you will affect your mpg more by how you drive then just a tuner.

And yes, performance mods done to a truck can be taken into consideration when tuning your truck. What all mods do you have?

I don't have any yet, i plan on an intake of some sort, i haven't picked one yet, with long tubes to high flow cats with an x pipe and 2 slp loudmouths. That's about it as far as engine work as i feel i should go.

I want the tune for 87 for more power and mileage, id like to run the mileage tune during school because i have a 60 trek round trip that's all highway, and an 89 performance tune for the summer time when i only need to go 5 miles to work.

A SCT tuner would work well then with your setup. Drop me s pm when looking to buy as I'm running a group buy for SCT right now for the forum.
