Tune Up
I'm getting ready to tune up my 99 F150. The truck has 133K on it and has been very reliable. About two weeks ago I drove to the bank, parked for a couple of minutes and it would not restart. Just cranked and cranked. I sat for about 5-10 minutes and it finally started. Drove 30 miles to work, parked it and tried to start and it fired up fine. After work it started and got me home fine. Then after sitting for a few days the same thing, would turn over but not start. I pulled one of the plugs and discovered that someone put in Autolites. I plan to get Motocraft plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter and oil filter from Ford parts on line. I have disconnected the battery so it wont go dead from sitting as I don't have the parts just yet. I called a dealer to ask about the coil. They check it on the truck with an analyser. Is there a way for a home mechanic to check a V-6 coil without frying it? I hate to pay some shop $96.00 to tell me I need a $81.00 coil when all they do is hook up a tester and justify charging you an hourly labor rate! I live in the Sacramento California area and if anyone on here knows of someone who can test it for me that would be great. Thanks
