Exclamation Transmission trouble..Someone please help

Today i was headed to work and took off from a red light and when i went to third gear the motor just reved like there wasnt a third gear and it did the same when i went to fourth. It went into first, second and fifth fine til i stopped to turn around and when i did that it didnt have any gears. The shifter just flops around and wont go into any gears or neutral position. A few weeks ago the transmission began to stick in first and when you got out of first you had to fight with it to get it to go back in gear. Someone said it could be the rods but im not sure. Any ideas?

My solution to tranny problems is to replace it with one that has a warranty, used or rebuilt. Check around at tranny shops, you may be able to pull yours and swap it for one that is new or rebuilt already. I also use junkyards a lot, though most do not offer a warranty in writing. Replace the clutch while you are at it. You have Pull-A-Part junkyards in Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville. pullaprt.com (no, don't own stock in them, I just like there prices)
