Default Transmission question.

Got a 99 f-150 with the 5.4L 4x4 with 174k on the odometer. Quick question, when ever i unplug the negative terminal on my truck to do work like install a radio, and reconnect the battery. I notice the gauges do a swipe as if the ecu got reseted. Also when my truck shifts into 4th gear going down the highway after the ecu getting "resetted", when i let off the gas completely it will automatically shift back into 3rd like its confused. But then it goes away maybe 30 miles later as if it needs to relearn.

Is this normal?

Also quick question, does anyone happen to have a center cap for my vehicle. chrome with no ford logo on it. get back to me thank you.

Dont know that its normal but with the miles you have I would live with it until you are ready to replace/rebuild the tranny. Not saying that specific problem can't be fixed just with your mileage I would wait and see if others problems arise.

Actually not that odd.

If you read your owner's manual regarding the transmission's ability to learn your driving style, you would know that you can in fact reset the computer's shift memory after a certain period of time with the battery removed. It will actually store driving data as it gets reacquainted with your driving style after a reset cycle. I think the manual said this takes about 50 miles.
