Default Transmission Problem or Something Else?

2001 Screw 4x4, 170k miles
Symptoms:
No codes or Flashing check engine light. Started downshifting at normal highway speeds often (65-75) even when it downshifts it has trouble maintaining speed. I have to stomp on it and it downshifts another gear to make any progress but still just barely gains ground and then seems to have trouble shifting out of that gear once letting off the gas. Feels like driving directly into the wind. Mileage has dropped from around 12 mpg to if lucky 10 mpg. Just no get up and go at all a true pig at the moment. Transmission isn't making any noises that I can detect. Recently changed transmission fluid and filter. Saw no large shavings just the what i would guess normal dirty magnet for a transmission w/ 170k. Started a few days ago, was thinking transmission is slipping but I was still doing the same speed to rpm ratio as before, just again feels like driving into a strong wind. Fuel filter and air filter changed only a couple thousand miles ago. Swapped out spark plugs w/ no change. Engine seems to be running fine, nice and smooth. Is my transmission dying or can I be lucky enough it's something I can fix myself? Any help would be much appreciated. Could it be transmission solenoids or torque converter or look somewhere else? Sorry for the long post. Help me love my truck again.

It's obvious but make sure your fuel filter is fresh and air filter clean
