Default Transmission Issues

Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum scene and thought you guys could help me. I have a 1998 F-150 4.6 V8 4x4 and I am having some transmission problems. I have a slow transmission fluid leak that I have been trying to keep topped off. We recently got a heavy snow storm where I live and it required the use of 4WD. After using a couple times to get through a few drifts I lost my reverse gear and when in neutral my pickup acts like its in drive. I am wonder if anyone could help me diagnose the problem or have any suggestions?

Sounds like you have a bad shift tube or the linkage has come loose. If you look under the driver side dash the cable is attached to a tube with a bracket bolted to it. Sometimes the bolts come loose. You'll be able to see this more clear if you wiggle the shifter a little. If they are loose, you can tighten them up. If not the tube may have broken or something is wrong at the linkage down at the trans.
