Default transfer case stuck in low range

I have a 98 f150 4X4 off road package manual shift transfer case. this weekend i was driving at 55mph and my truck shifted into neutral without touching a gear shift i was going down a hill when this happened so i stoped put it in park so i could check things out and it started rolling down the hill. i got back in and put truck in 4-lo to see if trans case would engage, and it did then tried to put it back in 2-wd hubs came unlocked but i was still in low range, i keep thinking about the transfer case motor, but what would have caused it to shift into neutral at 55mph

The same thing happened to the letter. The manual linkage is hooked up and the Tcase selector shaft moves freely. So it is an internal transfer case problem. I really don't want to tear down My transfer case so I'm hoping its the cold. Either tear it down or get a new one at the junkyard. Did ya get yours figured out?

This happened to me yesterday. In stop and go traffic. No noise no warning. Like my clutch went out. Pulled over and stopped and all of a sudden the transfer case only was in 4WL. If I shift the case to 4WH the front diff engages but it's still in 4L.
Did you guys ever figure out the problem?

You're going to have to get help from current members. Those two guys have only 4 posts between them since 2009.
