Default Transfer Case Shift ****: How does it attach?

Here's a weird one! My new F150 is great! I did notice that the T-case shift **** (manual T Case) is not attached to the shifter, it's just sitting on the shaft. As I explored more of these at the junkyard, I discovered that each and every one was not not attached! There doesn't appear to be threads on the shifter (i.e. it doesn't screw on). Was it glued on from the factory? Can it be fixed? Can anyone share what they have done to reattach the ****? I'm thinking JB Weld......

Thanks

The top of the post should have splines and the center black cap (with the 2H N 4H 4L) should have grooves to fit over the splines. Should be a tight fit.

I replaced both my 5 speed transmission shift **** and my transfer case **** on my '99. The transmission shift **** would easily come off in my hand - especially when shifting into 2nd gear. The new Ford ***** are different than the original (shift pattern is now molded into plastic instead of printed on a glued-on piece of metal). So, I replaced both Trans shift **** and transfer case shift **** so they would match. The **** that was still attach was not too bad to get off. I think I twisted the **** with my hand or a pipe wrench. To install the new *****, I had to pound both of them on with a mallet. They do not go on easily.

JB weld would certainly work to attach your broken transfer case **** but it may be a mess (difficult to remove JB weld from splines) if you ever need to take the shift **** off.
