getting new tires here in a couple months. I'm tired of them, my other 35s weren't nearly this heavy. Been waiting on the trans to go anyway since it hasn't received regular maintenance that I know of

revs fine sounds strong. Coming from a stop it feels like I'm tugging a huge tree trunk until it shifts into second

Turning OD off doesn't help, neither does manually shifting

A bad TPS feels like the gear selector is on 2. The best way to diagnose this is using a Bi-directional scan tool. You can easily determine if it's a mechanical or sensor issue by commanding the tranny excatly when to shift.

A partially stuck open thermostat can also cause shifting issues.

What? This sounds like a bunch of bogus to me. Even if ect temps rise, i can't see how the trans will just start slipping and acting funky. Partially open thermostat will still flow coolant too. that's the last thing I'd be checking unless the dummy gauge says he's overheating.

LOL. A bad TPS with not cause a gear to slip. It will however cause it to hold a gear longer due improper pressure to shift.

The thermostat causing shift issues are bs.
