Trans problem
Hi, Any help would be appreciated.
I have a 2001 F150 supercrew. It has a 5.4L and a 4r70 trans, oh and it's a 4X4. The problem is when I put it into drive it feels like it engages twice... thats it. Drive it rolls forward a little pauses and a half of second later it clunks into again. The reason I'm asking is that their are no other issues with it at all. If i leave my foot on the brake for a second after placing it in drive you don't feel it at all of if I step on the gas right away their is no slip or jerk. Just when I let it coast after placing in drive. It feels like slop in the drivetrain but I checked. I was thinking this is an elctrical problem and not mechanical... more like hoping. I have owned this truck for over a year and has had this problem as long as I have had it. I bought this truck with a carfax service record, I am the second owner. The truck has 111,000mi and is extremly clean for the year.
Thanks for taking the time to read this long exlanation, I don't expect a 10 year old truck to be perfect (It has other issues, none serious but I know what they are or their is a TSB on it). Thier is nothing on this on though. Thanks again.

The PCM uses the signal from the TPS to help determine shift point strategies; the device could be well worn at that age and mileage....wouldn't hurt to replace it, they're cheap enough and easily accessible.
I can try that. I am sure it never was replaced. I did however take to a trusted transmission shop and the gentleman didn't have a clue. He had three trucks with the same trans on the rack when I got their, and all had about 200,000 miles on them. Maybe I shouldn't worry so much.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much.
