Well I can tell you what I did.. I bought a Tru-Cool 40k. Its the same exact unit that comes on the V10 99-03 Superdutys. At about a third of the cost. Hell I'll just post pics.. Basically I made mounts from 1/16 strapping material. The factory hoses off the cooler alreay have hose clamped connections. So you just some hose and everything comes in the kit.

This is the kit I used. http://www.transmissioncoolers.us/4739.html

I will grad some quick pics so you can see how i have it mounted.

Honestly I would bypass the radiator completely. Come from tranny into new cooler, into stock cooler and then back to the tranny.

On my 03 that was lifted on 38s with 4.56 gears I would see 200-220 tranny temps when towing a 20' party barge. After seeing my temps that high I decided to do something about it.

I bought a Factory Tech tranny cooler with a 8" SPAL fan behind it, it was about 12"x12". I bypassed the radiator completely cause let's be honest although it does control the swing of the temps it also heats it up!! Your passing cool tranny fluid into a 190* radiator.

I ran from tranny to FT cooler then into the stock cooler cause there really isn't a reason to delete it and it's one less hose you have to cut and then back into the tranny.

Then hooked up to a all steel car hauler with a full weight stock 94 GT Mustang. Was in stop and go traffic for 2hrs and the temp NEVER got over 178*.

I personally believe because of this mod is the reason the tranny is still in perfect running condition after 110k miles of turning 38" tires and 40k of those miles was supercharged and was drag raced a lot.

How are you guys getting the trans temps? Programmers? Also was the stock coolers a special option or are they on most?

I was warned not to bypass the radiator due to winter driving. It was a damn cold winter this year, coldest I've ever seen actually. But anyways, just guessing, you live in a warmer climate right?

At first I ran a AutoMeter Trans Temp Gauge but later switched to a Aeroforce Gauge.

The cooler was installed on trucks with the factory tow packages.

The stock coolers come with the towing package. I get my trans temps from over Torque Pro. Stock trans temp in valve body to ECM>BT dongle>phone>Torque

Yeah, sorry I should have stated that. Bypassing radiator is only suggested(by me) if you live in non below freezing winter locations. I live in New Orleans so we rarely see below 32*.

The reading you guys seeing is a calculation based of engine temp, because the PCM knows the fluid goes into the radiator. No transmission before the 5r110 has a built in temp sensor as far as I'm aware. My Torque pro app says 188. But my Aeroforce guages read 154* out and 130* in.

My Aeroforce gauge that got its info from the computer was within 10* of my AutoMeter temp gauge with an actual temp probe installed into the test port on the side of it. I am referring to a 4R70W if that matters.
