how much is a neew tranny in my 98 f150 lariat how do i tell which one it is and can a rebuild fixx it

i was driving and it would only go up to 3rd gear now wont go into any of the gears trsans is auto help!!!!

 

If the case is intact it's usually salvageable. Rebuilding them right is a completely different story however. Look at your local options. If a new one is cheaper than a rebuilt unit, get a new one, if a mechanic believes he can salvage your current one fairly cheaply, go for it. If it's a 4.6, then its a 4R70W. If it's a 5.4 it could be a 4R70W or a 4R100. See if there are markings on the transmission that say what it has.

 

you also might be able to find a good cheap low mile trany at a junk yard
