what does it cost to have a transmisson rebuilt? its in a 2001 f-150 4wd with the 5.4

Just depends on where you get it done. I would say at least a grand though.

check greenleaf auto for a low mileage takeout....

if the shop does the whole thing take it out rebuild it install it your prob looking at 1,500+ if you take the trans out at your house and take it up there a bench rebuild is about 1,000ish.

Just finished my 03 f 150 fx4 tranny rebuild on tuesday. (4r70w) Ford dealer quote $3000. (colorado) Local tranny shop quote $3000. Ouch. i pulled it myself and had a friend do the rebuild for 450 bucks labor.
Master trans kit $175.
Rebuilt torque converter $100
Sift solenoids A and B with Electronic pressure control solenoid and internal electronic harness $ $165.
Rear main seal (why not when your in that far) $12.
New mercon V for trans and tcase $65.
