Default A trailer pulling question for all of you here on the forum?

So heres my question. My buddy wrecked his truck(99 f150 reg cab short bed 4X4) a while back, and my dad's shop towed it in. He has a two axle 8 X 18 car trailer, which is probably about 1700 pounds unloaded. To save him a couple bucks, I was going to offer to haul it down to his dads shop for him. His dad's shop is about 30 miles from were the truck is, so the trip with my truck over all would be probably 70 miles unloaded and 30 miles with his truck on the trailer. Would my truck beable to tow that much weight without ruining anything? Mines a 1998 f150 5.4 ext cab 4X4 off road with the "Tow Package" and a 3:55 limited slip rear axle. It also just had standard load 285's, inwhich I will inflate to max pressure. Of course we will take are time and stuff, and I've hauled many things with my truck, just never something this big. Just checking in to see everyones opinions on if its worth it, and if I risk blowing something up or ruining anything. Thanks, Devon!

Yes you can tow it... I work for a guy that had a 99 F150 4x4 with the 4.6 and pulled a 24ft inclosed trailer with a 55 chevy in it with out any issues.

Not a problemtowing it at all. Just try to get the rear of the truck on first. As it will move some of the weight off the tongue of the trailer and make it easier to tow.

Towed my skiddy around (trler/skiddy about 9K) and it will do it, but I wouldn't want to do it for very far with the old 4.6. 5.4 in the '08 does great tho.

If you don't have trailer brakes, be prepared to keep a safe following distance, it will take a while to stop that heavy of a load. If people pull in front of you and ruin your safety gap you had for the car in front of you, don't get pissed, just slow down a bit and regain that gap - always. The last thing you want to do is rear end someone. best to drive very defensively when you know you can't stop.
Your truck will have no problems pulling it though. Like the other guy said - keep overdrive off.

I haul my 49 three-quarter ton chevy, my 83 dodge d150, and my dads 78 camaro. Haven't had any problems. I have heard that f150s are better for towing than most trucks. You should be alright. I second the statement about the trailer brakes.
