Default tire size question

my 1999 f150 needs some new shoes after 185 thousand miles and im tired of smaller tires. I have the 16inch wheel. and currently i have 265 70's and i was wondering what is the largest tire that will fit on that rim?

Your new wheel will be 7½ inches wide. That is the determining factor in how wide a wheel will fit on the rim and not peel off. You can run 35 inch tires and they will not rub if you crank the torsion bars and cut a bit of the lower valance. Google 35 x 12.5 17 tires and have a look at what comes up.

i would definitely stay with the 16in, tires are MUCH cheaper than a 17. im thinking you could fit a 305/70 with the t-bars cranked.. might have to do some slight trimming though

i had a set of 295/75/16 (stock wheels) on my truck before i put any type of lift on it. tires were Hankook dynapro MT's. no rubbing on when hard accross a little bit on the control arm.
