Tire Size Question
I have a 2002 F-150 Fx4 that i am planning on lifting. Problem is i am waiting for the funds to by the 4" lift kit, it will only take about a month or 2. The other prbolem is i need new tires ASAP. I dont want to buy brand new tires, turn around in 2 months and have to by bigger ones. What is the biggest tire i can fit on my truck without rubbing to much? When the lift kit is done i want to run 295/75/17, will they fit for now?
Thank you,
Thank you,

I have a 96 F150 4x4 with no lift kit and I am running 31x10.5's, on 15 inch stock chrome rims, with no rubbing at all. The spare tire on my truck is a 265-70R15 and when I placed it next to the 31's it looked to be about the same height.
Remember, the 285, 295,etc., is the width of the tire and the 65/70/75 is the aspect ratio of width to height of the tire.
The 295 stands for 295 millimeters and that is about 11.6 inches wide.
The 75 is the ratio of width to height and is 75% of the width of the tire. That is to say the distance from rim to tread is 75% of the width of the tire, which would be 8.7 inches.
So, for a 295/75R17, the overall height, including the rim, would be about 34.4 inches tall. Perhaps a little to tall for a standard 4x4 with no lift. I think 265's would be fine, perhaps even 275's.
Here is a site I found that explains the tire size breakdown pretty well:

305 does not make reference to diameter. I am guessing you have 16 inch wheels yes?. you can put 295/ 70/ 16 easy, 305 70 16s are about 32.9 to 33 tall, I am putting 315/ 70/ 17s on my 03 supercrew with a 3 inch body lift. I also debated on the suspension lift and cant see the benefit. I figured 34.5 or 35 tall is all I can get into before it becomes more of a problem than a benefit. If a 6 inch suspension lift would increase suspension travel by 6 inches then ok. dont get me wrong they look awsome but for me I need air under the diffs.
